Hi everyone! I finally put together a blog post that is all about my recent trip to Hearst Castle. I’m going to guess that this was my 5th visit and it definitely won’t be my last! I am completely obsessed with Hearst Castle and can’t get enough of it. Hearst Castle is located in beautiful San Simeon, California, which is about three hours away from me. The central coast in California is stunning and is simply something that you have to experience yourself. There really aren’t a lot of hotels in the area but there are a lot of Airbnb options. We always stay in a house in Cambria that is owned by my father-in-law’s friend and it is always such a treat to visit. There are tons of local shops and restaurants that are so fun to explore. In fact, I’m not even sure if there is a single chain restaurant or store in the area-not even a Starbucks! I think it’s so fun to experience a town that is unique and has it’s own staples.
Below, you will find pictures of Hearst Castle that were all taken on my iPhone. Minus the pictures of me, the pictures of the castle are all unedited, so you can see the castle in it’s truest form. I will also say that if you are going to visit Hearst Castle for the first time, I recommend going during the day time so you can see all of the beauty it has to offer. If you didn’t know, the castle offers some night tours during certain times of the year where they bring in “characters” that take you back into time. I have gone on one of those and don’t get me wrong, it was fun but I just think you should see the castle in daylight if it is your first time. There are a few different tours to choose from, and I would recommend starting out with the “Grand Rooms Tour” if it is your first time. With this tour, you get to experience all of the main “social” rooms that Hearst himself used to entertain his guests. You also get to see both of the pools and get to roam around them and take pictures. This past time that I went, was the first time in a few years that the outdoor pool (The Neptune Pool) was actually filled with water! I mentioned this in my Insta-Stories, but Lady Gaga had a big part in helping repair the pool. Back in 2014, Lady Gaga filmed her “G.U.Y.” music video at Hearst Castle and ended up donating $250k afterwards to help fix the pool. To learn more about this, feel free to read this article.
I did not include any indoor pictures (besides the indoor pool picture above) because there is no flash photography aloud inside those rooms and they are very dark. Plus, I think you should experience the grand rooms yourself because a picture just does not do them justice! If you are interested in the videos that I posted on my Insta-Stories, feel free to check out my Instagram where you will see a “Highlights” section-I saved everything from this trip under “Cambria”.
